Australian musician and composer Nicki Parrott is a true multi-talent: initially trained on the flute and piano, she later switched to the double bass and achieved mastery and great popularity on this instrument. She performed for many years at the legendary Les Paul Sessions at the Iridium jazz club and in several successful Broadway ensembles, playing alongside pianist Rachel Z and her sister Lisa Parrott. On “Sentimental Journey,” Parrott is accompanied by John Di Martino (piano), Adrian Cunningham (tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute), Frank Vignola (guitar) and Alvin Atkinson (drums).
“Sentimental Journey” was recorded on April 28 and 29, 2015, at Trading 8's Studio in New York City and produced, mixed and mastered by legendary sound engineer Tetsuo Hara.
Venus Records was founded in Japan in 1992 by Tetsuo Hara, who previously worked as a producer for RCA Victor. The prestigious label uses a special mastering process called “Hyper Magnum Sound” for the strictly limited double LP of “Sentimental Journey”. The records are cut at 33 RPM and pressed on 180-gram vinyl, which produces a powerful, present sound and is highly appreciated by audiophiles worldwide. A quick note: Venus LP reissues are only pressed once! Once the edition is sold out, the title is removed from the catalog and will not be reissued. Collectors should therefore not wait too long to place their orders: all releases of the “Venus Masterpiece Collection” are extremely popular!
