Tears For Fears had their heyday in the 1980s - and only a few albums were released before founders Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith parted ways. But with songs like Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World, they wrote songs for the ages. A mixture of dreamy melodies and catchy lyrics ensured the band's commercial breakthrough. The two Brits borrowed their band name from the so-called primary therapy of psychologist Arthur Janov. This theory states that childhood neglect can be the cause of psychological problems in adulthood. Tears for Fears transformed the impressions of their childhood into raw, expressive songs that mixed tenderness and openness, seriousness and melancholy.
