The 1957 album "Blue Train" was the result of an agreement between Blue Note founder Alfred Lion and John Coltrane. For the fact that Coltrane was not only available to the Miles Davis Band, but also worked as a session musician for countless other titles of the label, he was promised his own album. "Blue Train" then became the actual solo breakthrough for the man with the angry tenor saxophone.
Besides John Coltrane, we hear Lee Morgan (trumpet), Curtis Fuller (trombone), Kenny Drew (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). The latter two may also be known as the rhythm section of Miles Davis. The collaboration resulted in one of the most important jazz albums of the 1950s and certainly the most important Coltrane album.
