In the 1960s, Herbert von Karajan conducted far more than just Beethoven and Brahms. On this recording, the master conductor interprets Ravel's “Bolero” – arguably the French composer's most popular composition – and Modest Mussorgsky's “Pictures At An Exhibition”, one of the most famous and most frequently performed programs worldwide. The Berlin Philharmonic ensemble approaches the essence of each individual work in its own incomparable way.
In 1984, the Penguin Guide wrote about this recording: “An outstanding recording in every respect.”
For this anniversary SHM SACD – marking the 150th birthday of Maurice Ravel – the DSD master was created exclusively from the original tapes (2024) at Emil Berliner Studios.
