Características
In the 1960s, Herbert von Karajan conducted far more than just Beethoven and Brahms. With Debussy's symphonic poems “La Mer” and “Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'Un Faune,” the master conductor interprets two centerpieces from the French impressionist's oeuvre on this recording. The Berlin Philharmonic ensemble approaches the essence of each individual work in its own incomparable way.
The Penguin Guide wrote about this recording in 1994: “After three decades, Karajan's recording of ”La Mer“ still stands in a league of its own, and his interpretation of ”Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'Un Faune“ is just as unforgettable – one of his greatest recordings.”
For this anniversary SHM SACD – marking the 150th birthday of Maurice Ravel – the DSD master was created exclusively from the original tapes (2024) at Emil Berliner Studios.
