The Hungarian-British conductor Georg Solti was awarded membership of the Order of the British Empire during his tenure in London: in 1968 as Commander, and in 1971 as Knight Commander, with the addition of the title “Sir”. Solti was the artist who had received the most Grammys, regardless of genre, until February 2023. He personally received 31 Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Trustees Award. He was nominated another 74 times. The limited new release of Bruckner's Symphonies 7 and 8 as well as Wagner's Siegfried Idyll on SHM double SACD (non-hybrid) from Decca and Universal Music Japan is sonically impressive – a clear recommendation for friends of both composers! Bruckner's Seventh Symphony is a deeply lyrical work and is considered the one that established his mastery of compositional technique. The Eighth is also the longest of Bruckner's symphonies and is full of beautiful poetry and majesty. Conducted by Sir Georg Solti and the Vienna Philharmonic, these performances capture the true appeal of both symphonies. Recorded in October 1965 and December 1966 at the Sofiensaal in Vienna, the original tapes, some of which were in very poor condition, were extensively restored and uses the DSD master produced in 2024 by Classic Sound in the UK from the original master.
