This 1999 album was the final commercial breakthrough for Canadian jazz singer Diana Krall. The album was not only a sales hit, but also won Grammys for 'Best Jazz Vocal' and 'Best Engineered Album'. 'When I Look In Your Eyes' was also nominated for 'Best Record of the Year' for the first time in 25 years. Diana Krall had arrived in the mainstream and her music was suddenly appearing in TV series.
Critics claimed that with this album, Diana Krall had finally proved that her pretty face was the best argument for selling records, because the cosy jazz interpretations, sometimes accompanied by orchestral music, offered little to attack. Whatever you think of this criticism, it seems that this is the album that many people have been waiting for in order to gain access to Diana Krall.
The recording was produced by Tommy LiPuma and features guitarist Russell Malone, bassist John Clayton and Ben Wolfe.
