Adderley and Evans played together for almost a year in one of the most important formations in contemporary jazz: the Miles Davis Sextet of 1958. This was a very formative time for both men, each of whom was followed by enormous individual success. The memorable reunion on 1962's “Know What I Mean?” on Riverside was Cannonball Adderley's idea – as was the inclusion of Modern Jazz Quartet rhythm section Percy Heath (bass) and Connie Kay (drums). In a remarkable demonstration of their musical range and sensibilities, the ebullient Adderley and the introspective Evans effortlessly navigated a path between hard bop and soul jazz.
As part of the acclaimed “Bill Evans Remaster Series”, Universal Music Japan is now presenting the sonically impressive adaptation of this Riverside classic – as a limited-edition, high-resolution SHM-SACD version (192 kHz/24 bit, non-hybrid). The original recordings for Riverside took place on January 27, February 21, and March 13, 1961 in New York.
