Following the huge success of his first album for Deutsche Grammophon, “Waves”, Canadian pianist Bruce Liu, born in 1997 with Chinese roots, is now turning his attention to Parisian composer Erik Satie. Bruce Liu, who won the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in October 2021 and thus stepped onto the world stage, impresses not only the jury but also critics and audiences in concert halls around the world with his fresh, spontaneous dynamism and perfect technique. On “Waves: Music By Satie”, he devotes himself to the “Six Gnossiennes”, which are said to have been influenced by Oriental music and which the innovative Frenchman heard at the 1889 World's Fair in Paris. The pieces were recorded on two pianos, a grand piano and an upright piano, creating two fascinating soundscapes that range from the rich sound of the grand piano to the intimate, quiet sound of the upright piano.
