Características

The Creole Mass is a mass for tenor, mixed choir, percussion, piano and traditional South American instruments by the Argentinian composer Ariel Ramírez. Written in 1963-64, the work represents a clear modernisation of sacred music. This recording, with José Carreras as tenor, was originally released by Philips in 1987 and was praised at the time for its stunning spatial imaging and presence.
The Misa Criolla was composed shortly after the Second Vatican Council allowed the text of the Holy Mass to be read in the vernacular. The text corresponds to the official Spanish Mass liturgy, but the individual parts are interpreted with different rhythms, each originating from different regions of Argentina. The first public performance of the Mass took place in 1967 in the Rheinhalle in Düsseldorf. Prior to this, only studio recordings had been made. This album includes 'Navidad Nuestra', another very popular work by Ariel Ramirez.
