The Lost Recordings is releasing the first part of the legendary concert recorded by Miles Davis and his quartet, together with saxophonist Sonny Stitt, at the Olympia on October 11, 1960: “Miles Davis Quintet - The Complete Live In Paris Vol. I”. On that October evening at the Olympia, the celebrated Davis was back without Coltrane. The saxophonist who was now in the band was much better suited to Davis's vision: the extraordinary Sonny Stitt, the “lone wolf”. Together with Jamaican pianist Wynton Kelly, whom Davis had hired in 1959, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb, they formed a cohesive group full of musicality, providing an ideal blend of understated strength and discreet intelligence.
The search for the complete concert began in 2022 when a friend of the label sent a photo of magnetic tapes in Brittany. A label marked “Miles Davis – Olympia 1960” immediately caught TLR's attention. After two years of research in France, the United States and Stockholm, The Lost Recordings is proud to present the complete version of this legendary concert for the first time. The meticulously restored recording comes as a strictly limited (3000 copies) double LP – with 180 grams of heavy vinyl, cut at 33 RPM at Simon Garcia, Marciac . The famous Kevin Gray is responsible for the lacquer cuts.
“The Lost Recordings” is celebrated worldwide for preserving invaluable musical heritage and for the unsurpassed quality of its Phoenix-Mastering™ restorations. ‘Miles Davis Quintet - The Complete Live In Paris Vol. I’ is nothing less than an audiophile revelation, showing just how fantastic stereophonic mono recordings can sound.
