Beethoven's Third, which is often cited as an example of his 'new way', allows several explanations for its revolutionary character. The work as a sounding image to celebrate heroism, revolutionary romanticism and its initial dedicatee Napoleon Bonaparte is at least legitimate on the basis of the "Marcia Funebre". No less exciting in terms of compositional technique appears Beethoven's handling of the thematic material, which gradually builds up and increases its irrepressible energy to the point of complete dissolution of the time signature.
Written in the period between the Third and the massive Fifth Symphonies, the Fourth forms the calming pole to the extreme affects of its unequal sisters. Guided by the romantic expressiveness of the weightless, groping-for-hold opening, the music soars to sanguine high spirits in the opening movement. The second movement slims down the rich melodic shape in a smaller instrumentation to a chamber-musical transparency. Conductor and orchestra model from the depths of the score a serene, contemplative yet deeply impressive rendition that reveals unheard details even after repeated listenings.
All 9 of Beethoven's symphonies in the flawless complete recording by Wojciech Rajski and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic complete on LP. Crisp in rhythm, secure in intonation, biting, elegant, contemplative, exciting, always transparent - all the advantages of a modern Beethoven interpretation on modern instruments are gathered here. All the clever tricks and the whole vinyl know-how of TACET are used. The symphonies 1 to 8, for example, were recorded at half speed using a specially developed filter.
Some symphonies already existed as "Tube Only" versions on LP. They are herewith replaced by new mixes which, although no longer from a tube-equipped analog tape, have other important advantages, e.g. clearer details due to more microphones.
