Reference Recordings presents its second collaboration with the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra in a spectacular live recording of Gustav Mahler's “Symphony No. 5.” This work inspired producer Vic Muenzer to pursue a career in the music industry. Vic Muenzer writes about the new album for Reference Recordings: “Once again, we present a dream team – consisting of the beautiful acoustics of Walk Festival Hall, the incomparable musicians of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra and the currently unsurpassed Mahler conductor Sir Donald Runnicles.”
Sir Donald Runnicles is Music Director of the Grand Teton Music Festival and General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2019, Runnicles also took on the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In February 2024, Runnicles was appointed Chief Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic. He also holds the title of Honorary Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, where he was Chief Conductor from 2009 to 2016. The Grand Teton Music Festival was founded in 1962 as part of a movement to actively promote cultural activities in Jackson Hole. The festival was originally organized by the Jackson Hole Fine Arts Festival. With the appointment of Ling Tung as music director in 1968, the festival began to grow into the organization we know and cherish today.
Reference Recordings has been responsible for many award-winning CDs, SACDs and LPs in the fields of classical, jazz, blues and world music in recent years. All releases are recorded with the conviction that the sound of a recording is just as important as the music itself.
