Following the huge success of Gruberich's vinyl release “10 Jahre Gruberich: Lausch – Groove – String” on Dominique Klatte's audiophile label “Jazz on Vinyl”, the Erding-based sound maestro is now presenting the popular recording by the Bavarian trio as a master tape. Gruberich, consisting of Thomas Gruber (diatonic button accordion & hammered dulcimer), Maria Friedrich (cello) and Sabine Gruber-Heberlein (harp), are not jazz musicians in the orthodox sense: the three highly creative musicians draw their wild, experimental and poetic ideas from the tension between jazz, classical, folk and world music. Their songwriting is so unique that they were awarded the “Creole” in 2018 – the renowned international world music award!
“10 Years of Gruberich: Lausch – Groove – String,” which also includes pieces from the Gruberich albums ‘Ohrenzwinkern’ and “Im Wilden Alpinistan”, is largely inspired by tango, but in a highly original and virtuoso way – as a master tape version, it's a feast for the ears! Originally, there were no plans to release it on Pure Tape Recordings, as this does not correspond to Klatte's principle of “no digital processing in the signal path.” However, the recordings made in the Erding City Library are so great that this special master could not simply disappear into the archives. Due to the complex pieces and the bound sounds, Klatte was unfortunately unable to make the many cuts with a “razor blade” on the tape master.
The master was transferred from the Studer A807 to the digital workstation, cut without compromise and then minimally compressed with a tube compressor. Without further detours, the signal was then played back directly to the A807. Despite this digital intermediate step, Dominique Klatte managed to achieve his typical, pleasantly direct and full sound – hats off!
