After the break-up of his band Transistors, American blues guitarist Melvin Taylor played mostly in clubs on Chicago's West Side, particularly Rosa's Lounge. Few outside Chicago knew who he was, so his two releases on the Evidence label in the 1980s came as a surprise. Taylor is an absolute maximalist, capable of unleashing a torrent of notes at any moment. He astonishes not only with his speed but also with his phrasing - unexpected stops and starts, fiery runs and an unusual choice of notes.
Melvin Taylor & The Slack Band bassist Willie Smith and drummer Steve Potts also accompany the exceptional blues musician on ten tracks. The album is recommended for all music lovers, but especially for fans of Stevie Ray Vaughan who are looking for a fresh, distinctive blues voice.
