This is drummer Idris Muhammad's strongest jazz recording as a leader. Muhammad, who has often been heard in funky or more commercial settings, shines in this reduced lineup, showing what he learned from the bands of his native New Orleans. Moreover, both the underrated Coleman and Sanders are in top form here on the originals and standards, as well as on "I Want To Talk About You," during which Sanders has some of his trademark outbursts to let everyone know he's not John Coltrane. Highly recommended.
