This 'live nightclub performance' with a jazz trio turned out to be a fake on Aretha Franklin's Columbia compilations, but is nonetheless a great LP, perhaps Aretha's best Columbia LP. John Hammond discovered her and just wanted primo music, but the label couldn't decide whether to put her as a performer of popular tunes from stage shows, jazz singers, or in the R&B division and just didn't get that she was all of those at the same time and deserved to be a division of her own. Here you hear the jazziest Aretha ever - if she had wanted to limit herself to this one area of her talent spectrum, she would be the greatest at it to this day. For "Without The One You Love" alone, the record is worth buying.
