Heinz Lichtenegger of Pro-Ject Audio had an idea that met with great enthusiasm: He wanted to launch a series of audiophile test samplers that would not only allow hi-fi enthusiasts to assess the tonality, transparency, resolution, stage presentation and the dynamic range of a music system, but also to really enjoy the music.
The first compilation in the "The Audiophile Spectrum" series perfectly combines great jazz music and outstanding sound quality: Austria's leading jazz musicians including musicians associated with the famous Vienna Art Orchestra, participated in these "live in the studio" recordings – along with international caliber players such as Steve Swallow, Brian Blade and Marc Johnson. "The Audiophile Spectrum" is vibrant, dynamic and showcases all the facets of modern jazz music – with lots of groove and drive, but also delicate and gently melodic.
All recordings on "The Audiophile Spectrum" are completely analog and were made with the best microphones and analog tape recorders. The LP, cut directly from the analog master tapes at 33 RPM, was pressed on particularly high-quality 180-gram vinyl.
