In 1992, Opus 3 Records recorded Stefan Lindgren's debut album, followed by his second album in 1993. Lindgren, one of Sweden's leading pianists, began his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and later performed as a soloist with his own piano concerto with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1980, he received his soloist diploma with an honorary medal and went to New York the following year to study at the Juilliard School of Music. After completing his studies, he quickly became a sought-after pianist and has performed as a soloist in Sweden and abroad over the years, including in London, Paris, Vienna, and New York. He also made significant contributions as a chamber musician, accompanist, and teacher. He taught at both the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Örebro College of Music. Since 2007, Lindgren has been the orchestra pianist for the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
On this unique album, he plays all the piano pieces ever composed by Swedish composer Hugo Alfvén! In many of these pieces, you can hear that Hugo Alfvén was strongly inspired by Swedish folk music. His musical legacy includes five symphonies and a ballet, “Bergakungen” (The Mountain King), the symphonic poem “En Skärgårdssägen” (A Story from the Archipelago) and, last but not least, the First Swedish Rhapsody, a work that made his name known throughout the world."
