Opus 3 Records, the world's longest-serving audiophile label, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with this special sampler! Jan-Eric Persson not only gives listeners a deep insight into 30 years of recording history, but above all a very personal selection of his favorite tracks, favorite performers, and favorite recordings. The 76 minutes of playing time impressively demonstrate how authentic and lively recordings can sound when they are consistently produced from the outset with a minimum of (admittedly sophisticated) studio technology and benefit from Jan-Eric Persson's unwavering vision and incomparable experience. “It goes without saying that all tracks shine with impeccable sound quality.” (Matthias Böde, “Audiophile Highlights,” STEREO 4/2007)
The outstanding Multichannel Hybrid SACD from Opus 3 Records includes a booklet with detailed information on the recording technology and microphones used, Jan-Eric Persson's nuanced perspective on the topic of “surround sound” and a detailed prologue by British pianist Matthew Harrison, who, as a long-time close friend of Persson, provides a wonderfully personal overview of the story of Opus 3.
Opus 3 is an independent Swedish music label dedicated to recording timeless acoustic music such as jazz, blues, folk and classical. Founded in late 1976 by sound engineer Jan-Eric Persson, the label has made it its mission to reproduce voices and instruments as naturally as possible. To achieve this, Opus 3 selects recording environments with good natural. The label's recording techniques were developed specifically for acoustic music and were originally based on the use of tube gear and “Blumlein” miking. In 2001, Opus 3 switched to digital eight-track technology and later to 16 channels – in the brand-new mixing and mastering studio designed and set up by Sweden's leading acoustic engineer Lennart Nilsson to mark the label's 30th anniversary. Apart from a few digital intermediate steps all processing is still done exclusively analog.
