In August 1969, Carlos Santana performed at the legendary Woodstock Festival, putting him in the spotlight of the international music scene. The subsequent release of his LP "Santana" became a huge success: it remained in the charts for over two years and the 22-year-old sold several million records. On this fantastic album, which is a staple of any ambitious collection, you'll find hits like "Evil Ways" or the great "Jingo", not to mention "Waiting" and "Soul Sacrifice"!
Carlos Santana catapulted himself into the Hall Of Fame of Rock Music with his very own fusion style. Nobody could really copy him and until today this music is undoubtedly associated with his name. Carlos Santana combined Latin with rock, blues-rock, psychedelic, jazz and soul in his irresistible rhythm on his debut album. But strictly speaking, you never really heard "Santana" before the remasterings by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, because the history of the album (as well as its successor "Abraxas") is associated with one of the most curious production errors in music history: From its initial release on Columbia Records and for the duration of nearly four decades, "Santana" was sold with its channels reversed. This error persisted until MFSL fixed it in 2008 for its reissue as an LP and 24-carat gold CD.
Shawn R. Britton handled the remastering for this Hybrid SACD with first-rate, incredibly dynamic and realistic sound. It tops even the now deleted Gold CD from the same company and shows that even in the absolute premium sector of studio equipment there has been a further development.
