180g SuperVinyl, LP. Opinions are divided on 'On The Corner'. Recorded and released in 1972, Miles Davis aimed the album at a young, black audience that had largely lost interest in jazz. However, it sold poorly and was mercilessly panned by the critics. It was only in retrospect that the music world recognised its visionary ideas and approaches.

Davis was searching for music without borders, for a kind of universal sound of the world. To achieve this, he invited fellow musicians such as Roy Badal, an Indian tabla player, Michael Henderson, Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock and saxophonist Dave Liebman. He let them all play in the sessions, collected the resulting streams of sound and edited them together at the end. Jazz fans looking for fine structures, sophisticated arcs of tension and artful solos will be disappointed. But this album had nothing to do with jazz in the first place. The ideas on 'On The Corner' are regarded as the basis for developments in hip hop, ambient, drum & bass and electronic, minimalist dance music - exciting!
