"Miles In The Sky" marks the transition of jazz giant Davis from modal to fusion jazz. He was already showing great ease with electrically amplified instruments and at the same time was ready for excursions into uncharted territory. This album is the fifth and last with the second Miles Davis Quintet, with which Davis made music history. Tony Williams (drums), Herbie Hancock (piano), Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Ron Carter (bass) and guest George Benson (guitar) play wide-open soundscapes, peppered with humour, bossa nova, country and ballroom echoes.
Remastered by Shawn R. Britton for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, 'Miles In The Sky' presents even more sonic information. Benson's blues guitar seems to breathe smoke rings into the air, you can feel Williams' sweaty percussion and Hancock's piano floats above it all with sublime clarity. The Hybrid SACD comes in a limited edition gatefold sleeve with serial numbering.
