A few years after the end of his legendary first quintet with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, Davis put together a new band in 1963 and 1964. The "Second Miles Davis Quintet", with Wayne Shorter on saxophone, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums, is today regarded as one of the best formations in the history of jazz. The quintet's first album, E.S.P., was released in 1965 and was another milestone in Miles Davis' prolific musical career.
"E.S.P." shaped the jazz music of the following years and bridged the gap between accessible hard bop and the improvised, innovative approaches that Davis was increasingly pursuing. In contrast to earlier albums, E.S.P. contains neither standards nor older Davis tunes, but only new compositions by the participating musicians, recorded by the quintet with perfect improvisational interaction and at the same time with a high degree of unity and individual expression.
Remastered for Mobile Fidelity by Krieg Wunderlich and Rob LoVerde and pressed by RTI, 'E.S.P.' is released on a 180g 45 rpm vinyl double LP in a limited edition with consecutive serial numbers.
