With "By the Light of the Moon" and "The Neighborhood," Los Lobos earned their reputation as one of America's most intelligent and creative rock bands. But it wasn't until 1992 that the musicians demonstrated the true extent of their sonic ambitions with "Kiko." Superbly structured and impeccably recorded, the album overwhelmed listeners. This was due in part to the collaboration with producer Mitchell Froom, who did an outstanding job. Piercing percussion, growling electric guitars, sonorous saxophones, prophetic Native American chants, angelic harps and an arsenal of keyboards create a metaphysical experience. The multi-layered Kiko is to the ears what a visit to IMAX is to the eyes.
Remastering by Shawn R. Britton for Mobile Fidelity also makes audible the subtle tones of the album that form the background of the songs. This is a brilliant, amazing work, now available in even better quality. The hybrid SACD comes in a limited edition mini-LP cover with sequential serial number.
