With "By the Light of the Moon" and T"he Neighborhood", Los Lobos earned their reputation as one of America's most intelligent and creative rock bands. But it wasn't until 1992 that the musicians demonstrated the true extent of their sonic ambitions with Kiko. Superbly structured and impeccably recorded, the album overwhelmed listeners. This was due in part to the collaboration with producer Mitchell Froom, who did an outstanding job. Piercing percussion, growling electric guitars, sonorous saxophones, prophetic Native American chants, angelic harps and an arsenal of keyboards create a metaphysical experience. The multi-layered Kiko is to the ears what a visit to IMAX is to the eyes.
The remastering by Krieg Wunderlich for Mobile Fidelity also makes audible the subtle tones of the album that form the background of the songs. This is a brilliant, amazing work that is now available in even better quality. The 180g vinyl LP comes in a gatefold cover with consecutive serial number in a limited edition.
