There are hit albums. There are blockbusters. And there's "Brothers in Arms." One of the world's best-selling albums, it catapulted Mark Knopfler and band to the top and won two Grammy Awards, including in the "Best Mixing" category. "Brothers in Arms" is the kind of epic album of which few appear in a decade. Always a reference work for audiophiles, MFSL released the sonic masterpiece as a hybrid SACD in 2013. For this, the PCM recording was reprocessed in the analog mixing console and finally converted to DSD. Brothers in Arms" has never sounded as realistic, balanced, dynamic and multi-layered as on this release.
MTV may have contributed to the album's enormous success, but it is primarily the excellently crafted songs and the unforgettable instrumental playing of the musicians involved that make it a classic. Mark Knopfler's guitar riffs and Sting's vocals in "Money for Nothing" remain unmistakable to any music lover. The hybrid SACD, remastered by Shawn R. Britton, is released in limited edition with consecutive serial number and booklet with all lyrics in mini LP cover.
This album has generated much discussion among audiophile collectors in the multitude of releases, three CD variants alone, one XRCD and one multi-channel SACD. The MFSL variant has a really minimal more compression compared to the first release from 1985, which was necessary to be able to bring out small details in the vocals even more accurately. Sound lovers, however, will be pleased with the much richer soundstage with finer vocal imaging and drums with full resolution, but without excessive sharpness. It sounds, fortunately, nothing like it did in the early 80s, when digital precision was the measure of all things for the new medium CD.
