Known for the hit “Groove Is In The Heart,” which ranks 233rd on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time and 2nd on Billboard's list of the 100 greatest dance songs of all time, the 1990 album is an entertaining excursion into the world of funk, house, disco and pop that puts a smile on the listener's face and transforms the listening room into a club. Deee-Lite's debut album delivers exuberant dance magic—thanks in part to musical contributions from Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker, Q-Tip, and Fred Wesley. Without bowing to trends, looks, or algorithms, Deee-Lite's “World Clique” conveys the feeling that anything is possible at every second. Instead of using entire song excerpts from Betty Wright, Quincy Jones, and the Monkees as a basis and then layering their own segments over them, Deee-Lite cleverly integrates samples of them into the groovy song textures. The collective, founded in 1986 by Lady Miss Kier (Kierin Kirby), Supa DJ Dmitry (Dmitry Brill) and Jungle DJ Towa Tei (Doug Wa-Chung) in Brooklyn, New York, in 1986, transforms its music, which is steeped in retro R&B, Daisy Age hip-hop, light psychedelia, and bubbly pop, into something cool, fresh, and absolutely credible. No wonder “World Clique” also conquered the British album charts: the album remained there for a full 15 weeks, at times even reaching number 2. “Groove Is In The Heart,” which contains samples from Herbie Hancock and Vernon Burch, became the trio's most famous song.

Mastered from the original tapes at MoFi Studio in California, manufactured by Fidelity Record Pressing, numbered and strictly limited to 2,000 copies, the double LP (180 grams, 45 RPM) comes in a luxurious gatefold sleeve from Stoughton Printing and offers the best sound quality the album has ever had on vinyl. This collectible reissue sets new standards in terms of spatiality, transparency, and dynamics. The grooves benefit enormously from the fact that the 48-minute album is spread over four vinyl sides.
