"Frampton" was the breakthrough album where it all came together: Peter Frampton's penchant for writing catchy songs with irresistible hooks, his outstanding guitar playing and his soulful vocals. "Frampton" is also the album on which he introduced one of his trademarks, the "talk box" for his guitar break on "Show Me the Way", which became a trademark during the tour for this album. In addition to "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way" and "(I'll Give You) Money" also became radio and live hits.
Shane Buettner of Intervention Records worked with Universal's archive team for months, scouring the archives in the US and UK for the best sounding tapes. Several sets of tapes, including tape copies from the 1970s, were sent for mastering and evaluated by Buettner and mastering pro Chris Bellman.
The best tapes are 1/2″ safety copies from the A&M safety programme of the 1990s. They sound sensational, dynamic, detailed and alive. Combined with Chris Bellman's work at the mixing desk and the superb mastering chain at Bernie Grundman Mastering, this LP finally lets you hear what Peter Frampton and his band really put on tape.
