In April 2023, British singer Fink went into the studio with LowSwing Records producer Guy Sternberg to record what later became known as "The LowSwing Sessions". As Fink later wrote: "The session was the catalyst for a musical yearning... A few days in a real recording studio with a few friends, stellar session musicians and nothing to think about but singing and playing.
The "stellar" musicians Fink refers to are some of the best in the world today: Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie's bassist with Black Star), drummer Earl Harvin (Seal, Jeff Beck), Thomas Moked Blum (Patricia Kaas), Haggai Cohen-Milo and Doron Segal. During the two-day session, Fink and the band recorded some of Fink's favourite songs by Bowie and The Smiths, some of Guy's favourites by Soundgarden and Little Feat, as well as some of Fink's own classics.
The album was recorded and mixed at one of Berlin's oldest studios, Tritonus, where Nick Cave, Erasure, Element of Crime and many others have recorded. The album was recorded on a 2-inch 24-track Studer A827 and mixed on a ½-inch Studer A80 at 30ips.
LowSwing recordings are recorded and mixed analogue to tape, no computers, digital mixing or AD/DA conversions are used in the mastering process. The album utilises LowSwing's unique collection of vintage equipment from the 1960s and 70s, much of which has been modified to their own specifications.
