EMI producer Suvi Raj Grubb was the one who not only discovered the young Barenboim for recording. It was also he who recorded the complete cycle of Mozart piano concertos with him for the first time. The partnership of the producer and the artist produced some outstanding recordings, including this recording of Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 23 with the English Chamber Orchestra.
The January 1 and 2, 1967 recording from London's Abbey Road Studio No. 1, conducted by Suvi Raj Grubb and Robert Gooch, is undeniably excellent. The microphones were balanced quite naturally, the orchestra captured at its best. Every instrument has its place and proper presence. The remastering of the XRCD24 was done by Tohru Kotetsu, together with Shizuo Nomiyama and Kazuo Kiuchi.
