At the time of the recording of Ravel's "Bolero" with the London Symphony Orchestra, André Previn had already been its principal conductor for ten years - longer than anyone before him. During this time, he raised both his own profile and that of the orchestra, introducing a wide audience to classical music with popular TV shows. Previn's "Bolero" is part of the wedding of his analog recordings, mainly for EMI, where he excelled with interpretations of the Russian Romantics and British composers such as Walton and Britten.
The Bolero recording was made in London's Kingsway Hall in the summer of 1979, while the other two titles were recorded at No.1 Studios on Abbey Road. For this XRCD, the original EMI analog tapes have been remastered by Tohru Kotetsu, Shizuo Nomiyama and Kazuo Kiuchi. The result is impressive!
