From André Previn's golden age with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1973 comes this recording. It was recorded at the legendary Kingsway Hall on September 28 and 29 in both stereophonic and quadraphonic mixes. The size of the Kingsway Hall was also decisive for the choice of the recording location, because it was also necessary to be able to represent the enormous dynamics of the orchestra and this would simply not have been possible in a studio. Sonically, the stereo version is considered better and its finer detail resolution is also evident in the recording used for this edit.
The XRCD remastering took place in 2012 at JVC Mastering Studios in Yokohama. Veteran master Tohru Kotetszu sat at the controls and was assisted by Kazuo Kiuchi and Shizuo Nomiyama. An excellent balance between dynamic grandeur and filigree nuances was achieved. If you've always wondered what music might have inspired John Williams to write the Star Wars soundtrack, you should take a close listen to Mars on this recording.
