Following the huge success of his album “My Ennio Morricone,” which was highly praised by both audiences and critics alike, Cypriot pianist and composer Stavros Lantsias returns with 10 new compositions inspired by the birth of his twin daughters. “Waving Hands” – hands that wave, that welcome, that reach out to the world – symbolizes the first contact with life, innocent expression and communication beyond words. It is a deeply personal and emotionally rich work that Lantsias recorded at Sierra Studios in Athens with strings and brass instruments. The eight-piece band, in which Lantsias is accompanied by outstanding musicians such as Michalis Kalkanis on double bass, Michalis Kapilidis on drums, internationally acclaimed violinist Nikos Pittas and master cellist Robertas Grod, weaves a rich tapestry of colors and emotions, offering the audience a truly unforgettable listening experience.
Highlights include the atmospheric, cinematic “Anticipation” and the groovy “The Little One” – both Lantsias compositions that capture the dual nature of the album: deep emotions and pure joie de vivre. Stavros Lantsias remarks: “Fatherhood is a completely new and deeply creative experience for me! Each melody tells a little story about the countless unique moments I share with my wonderful daughters... Dedicated to Artemis and Iris.”
More than 15 years ago, “jazz from Greece” was still flying under the radar of experts. That is no longer the case: the Greek jazz scene is growing, thriving and truly blossoming. Just think of the great releases by Petros Klampanis or Melina Plaxinos. The Hellenic Jazz Society record label began operations in June 2024 with the aim of producing high-fidelity albums from the local jazz scene. The steady rise of the Greek jazz scene has prompted HJS to promote talented Greek musicians at home and abroad. All Hellenic Jazz Society albums are recorded and pressed to high quality standards – on 180-gram vinyl and with high-quality printed gatefold jackets. “Waving Hands” is strictly limited to 500 copies.
