The Hellenic Jazz Society, founded in 2024, has launched a new record label to showcase the Greek jazz scene and its talented musicians.
Methexis' is the second release by Georgios Tsolis & Friends. Tsolis, a versatile and talented musician, surprises audiences with his concerts, seminars and releases. On this album he collaborates with Jorge Vistel on trumpet, Owen Hart Jr. on drums and Yussif Barakat on double bass. The compositions on the album include elements of bop, swing, experimentation, classical music and Greek influences. Methexis' includes standout tracks such as 'Arnold's Tune', which pays homage to Arnold Schoenberg with its complex development and improvisation.
Homage To Scarlatti' is a Greek jazz arrangement of Scarlatti's Sonata in B minor, while 'Bop Like' showcases Jorge Vistel's impressive trumpet skills. Perielixis' is a masterful composition that takes the listener on a psychedelic journey, and the album closes with 'Ojos Verdes', which combines jazz with Andalusian aesthetics and the composer's personal influences. Overall, Methexis showcases Tsolis' skills as a composer and pianist and highlights the depth and coordination of the talented band.
