Características
The Very Tall Band consists of the three jazz giants Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson and Ray Brown, as well as young drummer Karriem Riggins. This live album was recorded at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City from 24 to 26 November 1998. The three giants had only occasionally played together before, and rarely live. Perhaps because of this, a relaxed atmosphere of mutual respect was created, with plenty of room for individual solos. The combo is at its best, however, when all of them are really wowing the audience together.
The recording was done entirely in DSD, which gives it a great deal of authenticity. Unfortunately, at the time of its release, it was not possible to post-process DSD to a high level, so Winston MA took this step with the Ultra-HD in 32-bit mastering. The result is a relaxed live recording with a successful combination of individual microphones and natural room ambience, including a clapping audience.
Ultra-HD 32-bit Mastering
This mastering format has been developed by FIM and Five/Four Productions. Five/Four Productions is made up of the former Telarc production team who wanted to be able to master the best possible sound quality regardless of the quality of the equipment. The Five/Four Productions team has won 16 Grammys and countless other awards.
The music is re-digitised using 32-bit word length and a sampling frequency appropriate to the source material. Wherever possible, 192 KHz is used, but for some material, lower sampling rates can be beneficial to the sound.
The Ultra-HD 32-bit productions can be played on any CD player with excellent sound quality.
