Jacques Loussier already developed his jazz concept for "Play Bach" during his time at the conservatory. Again and again he devoted himself to other classical composers - and again and again he returned. In 1959, Loussier began his first recordings, founded the Play Bach Trio with Pierre Michelot and Christian Garros, and produced four albums with them on the Decca label, which alone sold over six million copies. On the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2004, Telarc released the SACD "The Best of Play Bach" with Michael Bishop as sound engineer. It is this same Michael Bishop who is now responsible for the UHD version of FIM, and naturally sets out to surpass his own product once again.
The recording includes well-known pieces from the Bach repertoire, but especially "Air on a G String" has achieved some notoriety because it was used as advertising music for Hamlet cigars in England for more than 35 years.
Ultra-HD 32-Bit-Mastering & PureFlection
This mastering format was developed by FIM and Five/Four Productions. Five/Four Productions is made up of the former Telarc production team who wanted to be able to master the best possible sound quality without regard to lower quality equipment. The Five/Four Productions team can look back on 16 Grammys and countless other awards.
It is re-digitized with 32 bit word length and sampling frequency adapted to the source material. When possible, 192 KHz is used, but lower sampling rates are sonically advantageous for some material. The Ultra-HD 32-bit productions can be played back on any CD player in excellent sound quality.
The term PureFlection refers to the new way of producing the glass master for the latest FIM productions. This is not done in the pressing plant as part of the normal production process, but by a specialist on a specially modified machine for cutting Blu-Ray glass masters. Before the CDs are produced, the quality of the glass master is checked and the new booklets contain the test protocol of this check. The result is significantly lower jitter values and also lower error values than with usual industrial productions and the resulting sound image has an organic feel in contrast to many modern productions.
