The Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio is a permanent fixture in the collections of audiophile jazz piano lovers. Yamamoto, a former house musician at Tokyo's Misty Jazz Club, became a household name in the scene with his releases on the Three Blind Mice label, and his 1974 debut album, Midnight Sugar, achieved cult status.
With A Shade of Blue, Evolution Music Group is now releasing the trio's latest treat, recorded live at the Gotanda Cultural Centre in Tokyo in 2021. A mixture of timeless jazz standards, catchy pop tunes and striking original compositions, the excellent chemistry between the three musicians is palpable and fun to listen to.
