„New York Reunion” was originally recorded in 1991 for Chesky Records and is one of the most exciting gatherings in the history of the renowned audiophile label. Directed by the legendary McCoy Tyner, who rose to fame with the John Coltrane Quartet, the incomparable tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, the fantastic double bassist Ron Carter and the extraordinary drummer Al Foster came together for a joint session. The quartet reveals its extraordinary synergy through a remarkable mix of jazz standards and original compositions. Among the album's many highlights are Henderson's bossa nova-inspired classic “Recorda Me” and Tyner's beautiful jazz waltz “Miss Bea”, a tribute to his mother. The group also breathes new life into Cole Porter's timeless “What Is This Thing Called Love”. But the highlight of the album is undoubtedly the extraordinary reinterpretation of Thelonious Monk's “Ask Me Now”, which underscores Henderson's remarkable saxophone genius. “New York Reunion” is a very special gem in the Chesky discography and we are delighted to present the reissue of this wonderful album as part of the “Chesky Original Masters” series as an audiophile Hybrid SACD that brilliantly showcases Cheskys renowned production and recording techniques.
