Colombian singer-songwriter Marta Gómez has become an authority on Latin American music. After receiving a scholarship for outstanding achievement, she graduated magna cum laude from Berklee College of Music. She was nominated for the 2004 Latin Billboard Music Awards in the category “Latin Jazz Album of the Year” – the year she released her groundbreaking album “Cantos De Agua Dulce” on Chesky Records, establishing herself as one of Latin America's most poetic voices. The recording combines Colombian folk music with Latin rhythms, Spanish flamenco and jazz harmonies: eleven tracks, nine of which are original compositions, ranging from the valleys of Colombia to the coasts of Peru and beyond. The arrangements focus on vocals and guitar, complemented by subtle accents of bass, percussion, flute and accordion that reveal Gómez's talent for lyrical storytelling and emotional clarity. In 2014, Gómez won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin American Children's Album: “Coloreando: Traditional Songs for Children in Spanish.”
Two decades later, “Cantos De Agua Dulce” remains a timeless expression of Gómez's vision: music that flows gracefully, connects cultures and celebrates the poetry of everyday life – an incomparable gem in the Chesky Records catalog. Evosound is delighted to present the reissue of this wonderful album – as a sonically outstanding Hybrid SACD that brilliantly showcases Chesky's famous production and recording techniques.
