This is Mingus's 13th studio album, but his first for a major label: Columbia. And a really good one. "Ah hum is not only considered his best work (along with The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady), but also one of the most important jazz albums in history. With an unusual line-up of three saxophones, two trombones and a rhythm section of bass, drums and piano, the set was recorded in just two days. Some tracks became standards, such as the opening "Better Git it in Your Soul", "Fables of Faubus" or "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat", a tribute to the recently deceased Lester Young.
