The Horace Silver Quintet had already regrouped in 1965, and with Woody Shaw on trumpet and Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, rising talents had become an integral part of the Blue Note family. Trombonist J.J. Johnson joins the group around pianist Horace Silver as a guest musician. Musically, Silver makes use of a certain exoticism, drawing inspiration from the Cape Verdean melodies of his father's homeland.
The album is much more progressive than Silver had originally planned, but you can still hear the touch of soul in the music. In addition to the aforementioned soloists, the Horace Silver Quintet also features Bob Crenshaw on bass and Roger Humphries on drums.
This title is part of a series of XRCD24 reissues from the Blue Note catalogue and has been remastered from the analogue stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood by Alan Yoshida, one of the inventors of the XRCD process. The sound quality of the XRCDs, newly released under the Audio Wave label, goes far beyond previous digitisations and in some cases sounds considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCD comes with a lavishly designed booklet with excellent photography.
