There’s no doubt about it: “Tres Hombres” left its mark on blues rock and helped make ZZ Top one of the greatest rock ’n’ roll bands of all time, having toured every one of the 50 U.S. states. With their rousing blues ’n’ boogie, the “dapperly” dressed titans from Houston – comprising Billy F. Gibbons (vocals, guitar), Frank Beard (drums), and Dusty Hill (vocals, bass) – made the most of their Texan heritage: Their distinctive sound, which blends rock, blues, soul, garage funk, Americana, and even more styles, is nowhere better showcased than on “Tres Hombres,” released in 1973. The power trio’s third studio album reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200, marking the band’s commercial breakthrough. Rolling Stone magazine ranks it at No. 490 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. To date, the album has sold over 5 million copies!
Full of confidence, with bite and some of the most rousing guitar grooves ever recorded, “Tres Hombres” cemented the band’s signature sound—raw, bold, and undeniably cool. Moreover, the album featured one of rock’s greatest anthems—“La Grange”: The iconic boogie riff at the beginning is instantly recognizable, the groove absolutely irresistible. This masterclass in blues-based rock perfection spans the entire album: whether it’s the slowly building “Hot, Blue And Righteous,” the funky “Move Me On Down The Line,” or the driving combination of “Waitin’ For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago” – every track rocks like hell, with unmistakable attitude.
Analogue Productions pays tribute to this rock classic with a UHQR double-LP set of impeccable sound quality, strictly limited to 5,000 numbered copies. The remastering, based on the original tapes, was performed by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. The two records were cut at 45 RPM, pressed on 180-gram Clarity Vinyl®, and are housed in tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jackets with scuff resistant finish by Stoughton Printing. Each UHQR is manufactured by Acoustic Sounds at industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP), inspected after pressing, and comes with a hand-signed certificate of authenticity: only the truly flawless copies make it to stores. The UHQR version of “Tres Hombres” is a truly luxurious collector’s item that will let you rediscover this milestone!
