Probably the coolest Christmas album ever: “A Charlie Brown Christmas”! The soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio for “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was first released in December 1965 by Fantasy Records. In addition to Guaraldi's compositions, the album also features several jazz interpretations of traditional Christmas songs. “A Charlie Brown Christmas” continues to enjoy unbroken popularity: since 2009, the soundtrack has been a regular feature in the US Billboard album charts and has sold over five million copies to date!
There is, of course, a reason for this success, as few albums are as deeply rooted in American culture as “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Guaraldi's charming, swinging music for the classic CBS television cartoon series brought jazz into millions of homes, wrapped in tinsel, nostalgia, and the chorus “Christmas Time Is Here.” With his melodic sensibility and West Coast coolness, Guaraldi translated the moodiness and melancholy of the Peanuts gang into pure musical gold.
