Bert Berns, the founder of Bang Records, the label that Van Morrison was signed to, had died unexpectedly. His widow blamed Morrison, as the two had argued about the direction of his new music. Berns wanted Morrison to adopt a more pop-oriented sound, but Morrison wanted to explore new territory – a conflict that could not be resolved. Warner Brothers, who subsequently signed Morrison, helped him get out of this contract, and Morrison immediately set about recording the masterpiece that would blur the boundaries between folk, blues, jazz, soul, and even classical music in 1968 and is now considered one of the most important albums of all time: “Astral Weeks.” “Astral Weeks” is more than an album – it is an experience. His stroke of genius rewards the listener with Morrison's most emotional vocal performance – his voice floats, whispers, and laments, conveying poetic lyrics with a deeply personal intensity. Double bass flute, vibraphone, and acoustic guitar weave together hypnotic textures, creating an incomparable atmosphere. “Astral Weeks” ranks 60th on Rolling Stone's updated list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
As part of its “Acoustic Sounds 40 Series,” Analogue Productions is now honoring this classic album with a collectible Hybrid SACD! The 24-bit/19 kHz high-resolution files from the original tapes were mastered by Matthew Lutthans using The Mastering Lab's analog all-tube system, ensuring that this reissue boasts a brilliant sound quality never heard before!
