“Live At Leeds” showcases The Who at the height of their career – on stage at the University of Leeds in February 1970 – with a performance so electrifying that it continues to set the standard even more than five decades later. Upon its release in 1970, “Live At Leeds” was frenetically celebrated by the music press. Critics and fans alike were stunned by its power and unfiltered energy – a stark contrast to the often overly “polished” live albums of that era. “Live At Leeds” was soon regarded as one of the greatest live rock recordings ever made. Here, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon showcase a wild, almost telepathic interplay – equally precise and chaotic. The band infuses cover versions like “Young Man Blues,” “Summertime Blues,” and “Shakin’ All Over” with an almost metal-like aggression, while celebrating original compositions like “My Generation” and “Magic Bus” with breathtaking intensity.
Now this groundbreaking recording is finally getting the audiophile treatment it has long deserved: The collectible Hybrid SACD (Dual-Layer) from Analogue Productions, mastered by Chris Bellmann at Bernie Grundman Mastering using the original tapes, unleashes the album’s full power and captivates with explosive dynamics and raw authenticity – as if you were standing right in front of the stage!
