The members of The Meters had long been musical giants in New Orleans, but when “Fire On The Bayou” was released in 1975, the world outside the Big Easy took notice: The Rolling Stones hired the band as the opening act for their US tour that year. Produced by the great Allen Toussaint at his Sea-Saint Studios, the album was the quintet's third for Reprise Records and arguably their best for the label. With percussionist Cyril Neville in their ranks, the grooves on these 11 tracks are even funkier, as some excellent covers (“Mardi Gras Mambo”) are added to first-class originals such as “Out In The Country,” “They All Ask'd For You,” and the title track. “Fire On The Bayou” is raw and powerful and sizzles from start to finish – a swampy, hard-grooving New Orleans classic that radiates heat, power, and soul from the first note to the last.
As part of its “Acoustic Sounds 40 Series,” Analogue Productions is now celebrating this classic album with a collectible double LP: pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP), cut at 45 RPM and housed in a luxurious tip-on gatefold jacket by Stoughton Printing. The elaborate and loving remastering from the original tapes ensures that this new edition offers sound quality that has never been heard before!
