This recording is a timeless masterpiece. Recorded by L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the baton of Ernest Ansermet, this DECCA title has become a classic. Ansermet was the first to perform Manuel de Falla's ballet, bringing to life its lively rhythms, subtle narrative, dynamic development and vivid contrasts and timbres. It was a masterly performance that remains unsurpassed to this day. The singing of the young Teresa Berganza is also well worth hearing.
The remastering for the Hybrid SACD by Analogue Productions was carried out by Willem Makee. The recording was made in Geneva's Victoria Hall in February 1961.
