Jascha Heifetz plays the violin on these two recordings, which were made in May 1962 at Walthamstow Hall in England under the direction of Kenneth Wilkinson and the Decca recording team. It was Heifetz who chose this unusual combination of two compositions for violin. Henri Vieuxtemps' “Violin Concerto No. 5” is one of his less frequently performed works, and the version with all three movements has probably been recorded even less often. Max Bruch's better-known “Scottish Fantasy” reflect the tendency of the time to pack enough material for an entire symphony into a single concerto.
The reissue of the “RCA Living Stereo Classical” series by Analogue Productions meets the highest audiophile standards: Bernie Grundman is responsible for remastering the original tapes. The double LP (45 RPM) includes a 2-page booklet and was pressed on 180-gram vinyl by industry leader Quality Record Pressings (QRP) using Classic Records equipment.
