The legendary British band's eighth studio album was to be the last with guitarist Steve Hackett, who, together with the core trio of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist Mike Rutherford, and singer/drummer Phil Collins, brought Genesis' progressive rock phase to a memorable conclusion. With “Wind & Wuthering,” Genesis reached a turning point – and created one of the most haunting and beautiful albums in their repertoire. Released in 1976, this gold-certified masterpiece heralded a new era for the band, was slightly less whimsical than its predecessors, and traded fairy-tale fantasy for stirring cinematic grandeur. “Wind & Wuthering” is full of atmosphere, precision, and emotional depth. The record includes Genesis' first single to chart in the US, “Your Own Special Way,” but it's the darker corners of the album – the majestic “One For The Vine,” the atmospheric “Blood On The Rooftops,” and the rousing instrumental passages—that reveal the band's full power. Tony Banks has often referred to this album as his favorite Genesis album: “It's definitely the most musically complex of all our albums.” For audiophiles, “Wind & Wuthering” is pure analog poetry: a lush, immersive listening experience where every synthesizer sound, every guitar line, and every drum beat seems to come alive in the room. The album was very well received by critics and contributed to the band's growing popularity in the US. It reached number 7 in the UK and number 26 in the US and sold steadily, eventually being certified gold by the British Phonographic Institute and the Recording Industry Association of America.
